Hi all...
I refurbish 360's with a pretty good sucess rate, however I came across this piece of trash. Basically got the unit itself working and the dvd drive wasn't reading any disks, so I ordered a new laser installed it still nowt. What its doing is - open drive - close drive then going straight to open drive again - no reading at all. The laser flashes a couple of time with the lid off & the disk spins. Ive tried my logic board in several drives but the same thing happens any ideas ??
Also if my board is trashed can I spoof another drive to make it work without the original logic board ?

If you can read the key, yea you can spoof another drive. I would assume your problem is a bad flash anyway. I don't know anything else that could really cause that.

Thanks for the reply But there has been NO Flashing involved... It would give disk read errors and insert into and xbox 360 type of message. Purchased new laser installed and nowt, tried another drive (working) and still nowt.
After looking and repairing several of these things, I'm honestly suprised that the failure rate is not at 90%..
And which company incorporates a complex FAULT system into there hardware ?? Hmmm let me think..

No, I'm thinking it was flashed before it came into your hands. Like I said, thats the only thing that I know that can cause this.

With your new laser, did you cleanly remove that static ball? there are 3 pins it bridges. One is a ground, one for CD and one for the DVD. If there is a hair of solder bridging something there, you will get that error. Also, adjust the side rails to bring the laser closer to the disc. The mechanism was adjusted for your old laser - factor that in. See if you can play an audio cd first.

It could have been that, that drive is not the original drive. Whoever gave you that Xbox probably had the original, trashed, drive threw it away without saving the pcb card and then put a diffrent one in there and the dvd key numbers didn't match the motherboard. So that could be a possibility.

That would give a "Put this Disk in an XBox 360" error, not an open tray.
